Adventures In Saving

Today was a very productive day. I went to Publix and CVS to grab some sales before they ran out and needed a raincheck.

I have blogged before about saving money shopping. It does require work and patience but you save a lot of money in the long run. This is as long as you don’t go crazy just to get something cheap you don’t need. I have very few rules when it comes to shopping. I ask myself:

  • Do I need it now ?
  • Will I need it soon?
  • Can someone use it?
  • Am I going to spend money I need for something else ?

Believe me, I am not the one to just stock up on items because they were free or cheap. For instance, Scott towels are on sale. There are several rebates and coupons plus store incentives, but I do not like it. I don’t have a garage full of stuff, but I do have a few closets. It’s all about balance and budgets.

Any who… back to saving… I did very well today … I was able combine sales, store coupons and manufacture coupons that I obtained either by newspaper or printed via coupons.com, smartsource.com, or redplum.com

Saving at CVS without Clipping Coupons

I am amazed at how some people do not take advantage of something so simple as an app that saves you money…. CVS has an app that over the last few months has saved me a lot of money. Today for instance I did not use any clipped or printed coupons they were all from the app.

Just for signing up for the app and adding your card you can get $5 in extra bucks ( formally extra care bucks). This can be used on most items in the store, it excluded milk, cigarettes and tabaco products amongst them.

Once you add your card to the app it will start within a few days or even the same day give you offers that you will have to add to the card. These are electronic coupons that can save you money on top of clipped coupons , extra care bucks and any sales.

For instance today, I had a coupon for food storage, air freshener, paper towel and body wash. On top of it, they gave me an extra $5 to spend for being a loyal customer. My results are below.

Not too bad I wish I had one more coupon go through but saving 77% is nothing to cry about. Plus most body washes and hair products count towards your beauty club spending ( you will want to sign up for that too !)

Ok so out of pocket I spent $5.89, then I received a $3 extra buck just for buying $10 worth of St Ives Body wash. Plus I received $2 back for buying 2 St. Ives body washes from Ibotta (see my post about saving part 3)

In Summary:

  1. Download CVS app
  2. Load offers to your card
  3. Save, Save, Save !!!

Have a great night and happy saving ūüôā

Easy Homemade Lattes

Most people cannot live without some coffee in the morning. But having a good; if not great, latte comes at a steep price because of the machine that makes the frothe. Now, I am definitely not saying don’t splurge but for the budget conscious people (like me!), you have to make due with what you have but you want to feel like you spent some well earned money.

To make a long story short …. You can do this yourself without a frother or espresso machine. All you need is 2 cups, a push wisk, microwave, and your coffee maker or Keurig.

Tools Needed

2 – 12 oz or larger mugs

A microwave

Coffeemaker or Keurig

Push wisk

Ingredients

Milk

Strong coffee or espresso

Sugar

Directions

Put 2-3 oz of milk ( can be soy, almond, skim, 2%, or whole ) in a microwaveable cup (12oz) .

Microwave Milk for 1 minute (the milk has to be warm to hot for it to foam up )

During this time make your coffee. I use Bustello and my Keurig I use the reuseable cup and use medium size setting for an 8 oz cup . I brew my coffee and at my sugar to the black coffee.

When you take the milk out of the microwave use the push wisk and push down for about 30 seconds to a minute it will just about double in size. The thicker the foam you want the more you wisk.

Once it is at the desired thickness pour in the coffee and stir. And there you have it your latte. Add cinnamon or a drizzle of caramel to make it fancy!

Let me know how you spruce up your coffee !

* I added a link to a decent push wisk. Just click on the word “wisk”.  I am not being paid by Amazon or anyone for mentioning it.

New Product Alert

For some of you who have not heard or currently not a fan of, there is a new Dannon Activia yogurt worth giving a try.

Dannon Activia Fruit Fusion is different from the the usual Dannon Activia it does not come pre-mixed. ( Reminded me of the usual original Dannon which I do not like). I gave it go either way because you cans not judge something by judging it against its predecessor.

First these are small, they come in 4 oz cups ( typical is 5-6 oz) which makes it hard to stir everything together well. I don’t know what size spoon it was meant for but it is not in my utensil drawer.

Unmixed

Strawberry & Raspberry Mixed

Second, the consistency of the plain part of the yogurt is not the same as the regular Activia. For me, the regular Activia is a little slimy. But the fruit fusion you can actually eat it plain without the fruit and it tastes pretty good.

Lastly, it’s a satisfying treat. It has 90 calories and 4 grams of protein. I have eaten this as a snack and I have found that it holds me over way past a few hours ( not everyone will experience the same but for me it was a plus).

This product still maintains the Activia promise of the possibility of helping with   overall common stomach issues with continued use.

The best flavor so far is the Peach & Mango  . The Strawberry & Raspberry  is played of for me since I have had that all my life just about . It also comes in Cherry  Vanilla and Blue Berry and Black Berry.

This week is the best time to try it since it is on sale in Publix BOGO sale plus there is a coupon for a $1 off each printable in http://www.coupons.com or this past Sunday’s newspaper from SmartSource also for $1 off . So you can try it this week for about .75 cents or lower.

Let me know your thoughts on it …. Likes does the challenge really work?
