Sautéed Cabbage 

In the spirit of eating healthier, which is what my whole family is currently doing, we came up with a side dish that is satisfying and tasty. I have tried to find other recipes for cabbage, however the real inspiration for this was from my husband Aunt Elizabeth. We went to Puerto Rico (the homeland lol) and she made bacalao (cod fish) with a cabbage, carrot, and onion mix. Since I always forget to get the bacalao, we just made a side dish without it of course with my twist.

Tools Needed


Deep pan 


Grater (optional)

1/2 a head of cabbage ( roughly 4 cups ) shredded 

1 medium onion sliced thin 

3 cloves of garlic

1 cup of shredded or grated carrots 

2 tablespoons of olive or vegetable oil

Garlic Powder to taste 

Salt to taste 

Black pepper a dash or two 


1. Place the oil in the pan at medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until start becoming translucent. 

2. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute watching over it so it doesn’t burn.

3. Add cabbage add salt, garlic powder and black pepper and stir together. Let cook for 2-3 minutes.

4. Add shredded carrots and stir together. Wait a minute or two and try some to see it if needs more salt or garlic powder.

5. Cook for 15-20 minutes stirring occasionally.

Serve and enjoy!
